Tried wheat paste on my last rebind and it turned into a gooey mess

I was re-covering a paperback from 2018 and decided to try wheat paste instead of PVA since I heard it was more reversible. The paste was fine at first but after 24 hours the cover started puckering and the paste bled through the endpapers. Has anyone else had wheat paste go bad on them or did I just mix it too thick?

Yeah wheat paste can be super finicky. Probably mixed it too thick or let it sit too long before using.

Figured out that adding a bit of clove oil @victor_perry90 helps keep the bugs away.
