TIL that a hinge tightening trick from a guy at the Baltimore Book Fair fixed my sagging boards
Was at the Baltimore Book Fair last month and watched a restorer named Marge work on a 1902 ledger with boards hanging loose. She said the trick is to pack a thin strip of Japanese tissue into the hinge gap before gluing, not after, so the board sits flush while the spine dries. I tried it on three of my own rebinds this week and the covers actually stay square now. Anyone else using tissue in the hinge, or do you go straight to mull and paste?
