A binder in Boston swore by PVA for a 200 year old Bible, and I spent 3 nights undoing it
Back in March I let a guy named Ray at a Boston guild meeting talk me into using straight PVA to reback a 1790s family Bible with a red rot spine. He promised it was reversible, but two months later the whole thing went stiff as a board and the boards started pulling away. I ended up spending 3 nights with a scalpel and wheat paste just to get the old spine back to something that would flex. So what are you all using on red rot leather, is it the paste and Klucel G mix or something else?
