Our book club split on whether the unreliable narrator in "Gone Girl" was a gimmick or genius - I'm stuck in the middle
I brought up at our last meeting how Amy's diary entries made me distrust everything from page 1, but half the group said that was the whole point and it made the book better. Three people argued it felt like a cheap trick to hide plot holes, while two others said it forced them to question their own biases as readers. My own take is that it worked for the first half but got old by the end - does anyone else feel like unreliable narrators can be overused, or is that just part of the genre's charm?

Honestly, is it a gimmick or genius? I can barely decide which socks to put on in the morning, so you're asking the wrong guy. Tbh, I just liked the part where she smashed the dude's face with a bottle.
