Our book club fell apart because of a 50 page rule debate

My group started arguing about whether we should enforce a minimum page count for monthly picks. Half wanted to stick with shorter books under 300 pages to keep things moving. The other half insisted we'd miss great novels by limiting ourselves. We spent two whole meetings arguing instead of talking about the actual book. Has anyone else had a debate like this kill their club's momentum?

Oh I hear you, our group had the exact same argument and we never really recovered from it.

Yeah I've seen groups implode over way less. @the_sandra that sound like a permanent grudge match at this point. Hope you at least got the good snacks before the fallout.
