Found out something wild about the book we just read

Our club just finished 'The Three Body Problem' and I was reading a fan wiki last night. I found out the author, Cixin Liu, was an engineer at a power plant when he wrote the first draft. He did it on a computer that wasn't even connected to the internet. I brought it up at our meeting today and it started a huge debate about whether working a normal job makes your sci-fi ideas better. Has anyone else's club argued about an author's day job?

Your "boring office job" point is why I started writing on my lunch break.
