Why does nobody talk about pressure testing air hoses before a big leak hunt
Had a long chat with a guy on a shutdown crew last Friday about how everyone just assumes a hose is good until they hear the hiss. He told me he spends 10 minutes capping and testing each one with soapy water before even starting, and it saves him most of a shift. Has anyone else switched to doing that on the front end, or am I the last one hearing this?
My buddy Rick on the night crew used to skip this and spent three hours chasing a leak that turned out to be a cracked fitting right at the compressor. He started doing the soapy water test on every hose and fitting before he even grabs his detector, and now he usually finds the problem in under twenty minutes. Honestly, it's the kinda boring step that feels like a waste until you've eaten a whole shift over one stupid pinhole.
