Just heard a new guy call a spud wrench a 'potato wrench' at the yard.

The foreman stared for a solid five seconds before correcting him. Anyone else got a funny tool name mix-up from an apprentice?

Remember to just laugh it off and show them the right name. Getting mad over a silly mix-up just makes the new guy scared to ask questions later. A quick correction keeps the job moving and helps them learn.

It's a good example of how we all learn the language of a trade. You see the same thing when someone new to cooking calls a colander a "potato washer" or in an office where a file extension gets a made up name. Patient correction is key, because those inside terms are a big part of fitting into any new group. Getting it wrong is just part of the learning curve, and how people react to it sets the tone for everything else.
