I finally stopped grinding my boilemaker stubs flush after a job in Gary, Indiana
Was on a 300 foot stack job in Gary last summer and the inspector made us leave 1/8 inch of stub instead of grinding flush, said it lets the weld cool even and keeps the toe from cracking. We argued about it for an hour but he showed us a cracked flush ground joint from the job before and I have been leaving stubs ever since. Has anyone else had an inspector push back on flush grinding or is that just a Gary thing?
