My buddy flipped the table over a rules call at game night in Fresno, and half the group thinks he was right
So we were 3 hours into a 5 player game of Twilight Imperium at my place in Fresno last Saturday, and my friend Dave got into it with another guy over whether you can retreat after rolling combat dice. Dave swore the rulebook says you declare a retreat before the roll, the other guy said after, and nobody had the book handy because it was in the other room. Dave got so heated he actually stood up and shoved his whole stack of plastic ships off the table, then just left without saying bye. Now our group chat is split, 3 people say Dave was totally out of line no matter who had the rule right, and 2 people say the other guy was rules lawyering to win and deserved it. I looked it up the next day and honestly Dave was wrong about the timing, but that feels like it's not even the point anymore. Do you all think table flipping is an instant ban from game night, or does it depend on how bad the rules argument was?
Heard a thing on a board game podcast about this exact kind of blow up, and the take was that once stuff starts flying, the rules don't even matter anymore. Like yeah Dave was wrong on the timing, but shoving your ships off the table is a whole other thing. Idk, sounds like the guy was being annoying but that doesn't make it a free pass to wreck the game.
