Serious question, did anyone else find out the hard way that the permit needs to go in 30 days out, not 3 weeks? | Block Party Brainstorm

I called the city clerk's office in Paso Robles 20 days before our party and got told the street closure application has to be in 30 days ahead, so we were already late. I had it in my head that two or three weeks was plenty, since that's how long it took the one time my brother did it in a smaller town. The clerk was nice about it and squeezed us in, but she said the police and fire review adds a full week on its own, which I never counted. Now I'm wondering if everyone else already knew this and I just got lucky the first time. How far out do you all turn yours in, and does your town actually stick to the deadline?
