No more midnight creek flooding after we cleared the drain grate
Our alley drain used to back up every heavy rain and flood three garages, but after one Saturday morning with a shovel and a $15 mesh screen I bought at the hardware store on Broadway, the water clears out in under 10 minutes now, has anyone else fixed a recurring block party flooding spot with a simple screen and a regular clean-up schedule?

That $15 mesh screen is the whole trick, honestly. Water backs up because leaves and trash clog the grate, not because the drain is too small. I did the same thing on my street corner and the difference was night and day. The screen catches the junk, you hose it off once a week, and the water just goes. Way cheaper than paying a crew to come out with a vacuum truck every spring.
