TIL a friend's setup beats meeting a stranger from an app for blind dates
I know the popular take here is that apps are the only way to meet anyone now, but I set up my cousin Rob last spring with my wife's coworker and it went way smoother than any app meetup I have done. They met at a coffee shop near downtown Cleveland on a Saturday morning, not at some loud bar at 10pm, so they could hear each other and just talk for 90 minutes. The app dates I have been on always felt like a job interview with a timer running, and one time a guy showed up 25 minutes late after I had already ordered two drinks. With Rob and Dana, we told both of them what the other person was like ahead of time, so there was no fake profile photo surprise and no awkward guessing about what the other wanted. Six months later they are still together and they send me a dumb thank you text every month. I am not saying apps never work, but I think the people you know have a way better read on who fits you than some swipe. Has anyone else had a friend set them up and it beat every app date you went on?
Did your cousin and Dana ever talk about whether they would have swiped right on each other if they had seen profiles first? Thats the part that gets me, because my friends know stuff about me that no dating profile could ever show. A friend setup skips all the guessing games and just puts two people in a room who already have a reason to trust each other.
