A 5 minute critique of my small talk saved my whole date
My last blind date in Austin went great until we hit a quiet pause and I panicked, asking about her 401k. She laughed and said I sound like an interview, just mention something in the room. Next date I pointed at a weird painting and asked if she'd hang it, and we talked for 3 hours. Anyone else get a brutal but useful tip from a date?

Wait, she just dropped the 401k line and moved on like it was nothing? That is wild to me. Honestly if someone asked me about my retirement plan five minutes into a date I would be looking for the exit, not laughing it off. Ngl the fact that she gave you the actual fix right there in the moment is rare, most people just get awkward and never say anything. I have never once had a date hand me useful advice mid-date, they usually save the notes for a text two days later or just ghost.
