My landlord's offhand comment about wall texture changed my whole shelf plan
He said flat paint hides nothing, so I tested a sample of satin on my dining room wall and now I'm redoing all my measurements because the sheen catches light totally different, has anyone else run into that issue with eggshell vs flat behind their art?

and honestly the sheen thing is real, I found out the hard way when I hung a whole gallery wall in my hallway with eggshell and the light from that one window made everything look crooked until I swapped to flat. the worst part is the measurements change because shadows behave different, like a frame that looked level against flat suddenly looks tilted with satin because of the reflection off the wall behind it. what worked for me was painting my sample boards in the actual room and moving them around at different times of day before committing, then re-measuring with the final sheen up. also keep in mind that eggshell will show every fingerprint and smudge behind art, so if you have kids or pets touching the wall, flat is way more forgiving even if it does hide nothing.
