That $120 winching stand I bought off a buddy, worth every penny or a lesson?
Back in March I got tired of fighting with my work piece alone in the shop here in Spokane. I dropped a hundred and twenty bucks on a used winching stand from an old farrier who was clearing out his barn. Thing looked rough but it's built like a tank, and honestly it made my life a whole lot easier when I'm doing fire baskets and gate hinges. But last Tuesday I nearly busted my thumb when the locking pin slipped because I didn't check the cotter key first. My own fault, not the stand's. The grabby release lever is still stiff, and I've oiled it three times now. Has anyone else ever bought used rigging that had a quirk you had to learn the hard way before it won you over?
