My old post vise snapped clean off at the weld last Tuesday while I was twisting some 1/2 inch square stock.

It was a cheap one I got at a flea market years ago, the kind with the cast iron bracket. Heard a loud pop and the whole thing just dropped. I had to stop the whole project and clamp the piece in my bench vise to finish. It was a real pain. I'm thinking of trying to braze it back together, but I'm worried the cast iron will just crack again. Anyone have a good fix for a broken vise mount, or should I just start looking for a new leg vise?

My buddy brazed his back together and it held for a few months, but it snapped again in a different spot. He ended up just finding a better used one with a steel bracket.

Brazing aluminum is always a temporary fix at best, @hart.taylor, because the heat weakens the metal around the repair. It's just not worth the effort when the part is already stressed. Finding a used steel replacement is definitely the smarter long-term move.
