My first time trying to forge a bottle opener went about as well as you'd think

I was in my backyard shop last month, all set up with my little single-burner forge. I had the steel rod hot, ready to twist the handle. I got the twist started, but then my phone rang. I turned my head for maybe two seconds, and when I looked back, the rod had cooled just enough to be a real pain. I gave it another crank with the tongs and the whole thing snapped clean off, sending the hot end flying. It landed right in my bucket of quenching water with a huge hiss and a splash that soaked my leg. My buddy, who was watching from a safe distance, just said, 'Well, that's one way to cool your drink.' I had to start over from scratch. Has anyone else had a simple project go totally sideways because of a tiny distraction?

Ever try to fix a leaky faucet and end up flooding the kitchen? I looked away to grab a towel and the whole fitting came apart in my hands. Water everywhere, just a total mess.

Oh man, that "looked away for a second" thing is the worst. My friend Dave was putting up a shelf, just needed to drill one last hole. His dog barked at the mailman, he glanced out the window, and the drill bit skipped right off the stud and went through a water pipe in the wall. He had a geyser in his living room and had to shut the whole house's water off. It's crazy how fast things fall apart. What did you end up doing with the broken bottle opener piece?
