Appreciation post: My anvil broke clean in half yesterday and I have no idea why

Was doing a light tap on a 3/16 inch bracket when my 150 pound Fisher anvil just split right down the middle, sending my hammer head flying into the garage door, and I honestly just stood there laughing for a full minute before I even thought to grab my phone and take a picture, has anyone else ever had a cast anvil just give up on them like that?

I mean, that's a Fisher - sounds like a freak casting flaw, not a common issue.

Right, a freak casting flaw is exactly what it sounds like. I had a similar thing happen with a Fisher plow a few years back, the whole mounting bracket just cracked clean through on a light snow, not even a heavy one. Took me forever to find someone who could weld it right, and Fisher just kind of shrugged and said it was a one-off. Those things are usually built like tanks, so when you get a bad one it really stands out, makes you wonder if the guy on the assembly line was having a bad day.
