TIL that bike lanes with a buffer of parked cars aren't as scary as I thought

I used to avoid the new lane on 8th Street since it sits next to parked cars, but last week I saw a driver open their door right into the buffer zone instead of the lane, and it clicked why they painted it that way. Anyone else ride a parking-protected lane? Do you still hug the curb or take the full space?
