I ride 4 miles to the office and always felt wrecked by the time I locked up, so I assumed it was just the hills. A guy on an old steel bike pulled up next to me at a red light on 5th and told me I was gripping the bars way too hard, that I should be able to wiggle my fingers while I pedal. Started doing that and cruising in one gear lower than usual, and now I show up barely sweating at all, so has anyone else changed their grip or gearing and had the same thing happen?
