Warning: I hit 500 bottom bracket overhauls and started doubting greased bearings
Hit 500 bottom bracket overhauls in my shop in Tucson about 3 weeks ago, and somewhere around number 400 I stopped reaching for loose ball bearings and grease. Half my regulars swear sealed cartridges are the only sane choice for commuters, but the old guys who race still bring me square taper cups and want them packed by hand. So where do you land, are loose balls worth the fuss or are we all just fooling ourselves?
