The shop owner in Reno told me to stop torquing by feel, and I thought he was wrong
I used to be in the "calibrated wrist" camp and would argue with anyone who said otherwise. Then last spring I was helping out at a shop in Reno and the owner handed me his torque wrench after I snugged down a stem by hand. The bolt was at 9 Nm when it should have been 5, and I had been doing that on customer bikes for close to 2 years. He didn't yell or anything, just said "you can't feel 3 Nm" and went back to work. Now I keep a 5 Nm preset driver on my bench and grab it even for little stuff like bottle cage bolts. I still think some fasteners are fine by feel, but the stem and seatpost clamp ones are not. Any of you got a part where you swear by feel over the wrench?
