Serious question, how do you all deal with rusted seatposts that are REALLY stuck?
Had a 90s rigid mtb come in last week with a seatpost that was basically welded in there from years of sweat and rain. Tried the usual stuff first, soaking it with penetrating oil for two days, then the vise and frame twist trick, and it would not budge one bit. I was about to tell the guy it was a goner when my old boss texted me back and said to try flipping the frame upside down and pouring boiling water down the seat tube, then hitting it with ice right at the seat cluster. Did that three times and on the third round it finally broke loose with a crack that scared the life out of me. I know some of you swear by the ammonia trick or even cutting it out, so I'm curious what actually works for you when a post is truly seized in there. How do you decide when to keep fighting it versus just drilling it out and billing for the hassle?
