Hot take: I always thought quick fixes were fine for flat tires.

A local bike shop here started hosting free repair clinics every Saturday. I went to one and saw them teaching proper patch techniques instead of just using a tube sealant. They explained how patches last longer and are better for the environment. Now I take the extra minute to patch tubes right. It saves money and reduces waste.

No way, half your patches fail? I've been patching for ages and mine almost never pop if I prep the tube right. It's a bit more work, but you end up with a solid fix that lasts.

Ugh, patching is such a hassle though. That sealant spray takes ten seconds and gets you rolling, no tools or waiting for glue to dry. Half the time my patches fail anyway, then I'm stuck on the side of the road. For a commuter bike, speed beats perfection every time.
