My offset smoker's firebox weld split right before a big cookout in Springfield

I had to wrap it with a high-heat gasket and a bunch of hose clamps to get through the day, but has anyone found a more permanent fix for a cracked firebox?

Right before a Springfield cookout? That timing is brutal, man. I'd be sweating bullets trying to rig that up with guests on the way. A weld splitting is a serious failure, way past normal wear and tear. Your temp fix was clever, but that firebox must have been under some wild stress to just let go like that.

Used to think weld failures were always from bad work. Seeing one pop right before a party changed my mind. That stress must have been insane.
