Overheard a new barber say clipper guards are all the same

I was at a shop in Austin last week and this new guy was telling his friend that any clipper guard works fine because they are just plastic. He was using some cheap generic guards on a set of Wahls and I could see the hair was not cutting even, leaving these random lines. I tried to tell him that the molding and fit makes a huge difference, especially on fade work where you need clean blends. He kind of brushed me off like I was being picky. I have been cutting for 6 years now and I learned the hard way that cheap guards will mess up your taper every single time. Have any of you had a client notice your lines because of bad guards?

What guards did you end up switching to?

Used to think the same as that barber @brookebailey, but a bad guard ruined a fade on me once and I never went back.
