I finally got why that old barber keeps his comb in Barbicide all day
Had a chat with a 30-year barber named Sal at the shop swap meet last Saturday, and he told me I was over-cleaning my clippers but ignoring my comb hygiene, which hit different because I've been getting more breakouts on clients' necks lately. He said a dirty comb passes more bacteria than dirty blades, and now I'm rinsing and soaking every 20 minutes like he does. Any of you guys stick to a strict comb sanitizing schedule or am I the only one who never thought about it that way?

Wait, HOLD ON. Every TWENTY minutes? Dude, that is some serious dedication right there. I mean, I get that combs are nasty, but I don't think I've ever soaked mine more than maybe once or twice in a whole shift. Honestly, hearing that story about Sal kind of freaks me out because now I'm sitting here staring at my comb wondering what's living on it. Guess I'm gonna have to step my game up way harder than I thought.

Honestly gotta push back on this one a bit. I don't think soaking your comb every 20 minutes is necessary unless you're working in some seriously nasty conditions. Like, yeah hygiene matters and all that, but obsessing over it that much seems kinda over the top. Most people I know just give theirs a quick rinse between clients and do a deep clean at the end of the day and that's always been fine. You're probably not gonna catch something from your comb just because you didn't soak it every half hour, I promise.
