Finally found that fade technique I was missing for 15 years
Been cutting since 2008 and always struggled with the parietal ridge. Client would say it looks okay but I knew it wasn't smooth. Last month I watched a guy at the shop next door, he just used a smaller clipper guard and went in the opposite direction. Tried it on my 2pm appointment, best fade I ever did. Any other barbers got a trick they overlooked for years?

HOLD UP. That small clipper guard trick in the reverse direction just BROKE my brain. I have been fighting with the parietal ridge for like six years now, doing the same damn thing over and over and wondering why it never looked clean. All that time and it was just a simple direction change and a different guard size? Man I'm gonna try this on my next cut and if it works I'm buying you a drink. That's one of those secrets that should be taught in barber school but nobody ever talks about.

Wait, are you saying you always used a bigger guard going in the normal direction? Because I've had way better luck just going in the standard direction with the right trimmer, no guard trick needed.

Funny how often the fix is just doing the exact opposite of what feels right.
