Rant: everyone says my tomatoes need 8 hours of sun on my balcony, but mine fruited fine on 3
Every guide I read for my north facing balcony in Portland said tomatoes are hopeless under 6 hours of direct sun, so I almost gave up on them. I put two cherry plants in a spot that gets about 3 hours of morning light and they gave me 40 tomatoes by the end of August, which is more than my buddy got in his full sun yard. Is the 8 hour rule really about fruit, or just about how fast the plant grows?
