My herb planter turned into a waterfall during a storm last June

I keep my rosemary and thyme in a wall-mounted planter above my balcony door in Chicago. A sudden downpour flooded the drainage tray and it dumped brown water all over my welcome mat. I had to take the whole thing down, drill bigger holes, and add a catch bucket underneath. Has anyone else dealt with overflow from vertical planters during heavy rain?

So the brown water ruined your mat or just stained it, cause I'd be way more pissed about that part lol?
