Heads up: your balcony pots can hit 130 degrees in direct July sun
I picked up a $12 soil thermometer at Green Thumb Nursery on Foster Road last weekend and stuck it in my black plastic pot at 2pm. It read 128 degrees, while my shaded terra cotta pot two feet away was sitting at 81. Roots start cooking around 115, so I moved everything to the east side before I lost my basil. Has anyone else checked their pot temps, or am I the only one who bought a thermometer for dirt?
