Rant: I was preheating my oven with the rack in the wrong spot and a thermometer finally showed me why my cookies burned
Bought a $9 oven thermometer after my third batch of chocolate chip cookies came out with black bottoms and raw middles. My oven runs 35 degrees hotter than the dial says, and I'd been putting dough on the top rack this entire time. Anyone else find out their oven temp was way off, and did you get it fixed or just learn to adjust?
35 degrees off is wild, that is basically a whole different recipe at that point. I get that ovens drift over time but I would have never guessed it could be that far from the dial without a thermometer to prove it. If it was mine I would probably just learn to set it lower and keep the cookies on the middle rack instead of paying a repair guy.
