My neighbor told me to put a cinder block in the coop for grit, and it actually works

I was skeptical because it seemed too simple, but the girls peck at it constantly and their eggshells are much stronger now. Has anyone else found a weird but effective trick like that?

That's a solid old-school hack. My grandpa swore by using crushed oyster shells mixed right in the feed. Seems like the simple stuff often works the best.

Honestly, is the cinder block grit thing even necessary? I just let my chickens free range a bit and they find their own grit from the ground. Seems like extra work for something they naturally do anyway. Unless your soil is really weird or they're totally penned up, I don't get the fuss. People overcomplicate chicken keeping so much sometimes.
