Update: saw 3 people on the Mist Trail last weekend wearing brand new boots right out of the box
If you're doing a 9 mile hike with 4,000 feet of gain, please break those things in first or you'll be the one limping down in socks by the Vernal Fall bridge like the guy I passed.

Eh, I've done that hike in barely-worn boots and lived to tell the tale. Blisters are just part of the experience if you ask me.
