Torque wrench lied to me on a brake job outside Dallas
I was torquing lug nuts on my buddy's F-150 last Tuesday and the wrench clicked at 100 ft-lbs, but the studs kept spinning. Turned out I never reset it after doing his suspension last year, and the calibration sticker was dated 2016, so the whole thing was off by about 15 percent. I had to pull the hub apart one more time, replace two stripped studs, and borrow a beam-style torque wrench from the parts store guy who laughed at me. That $35 Harbor Freight special nearly cost us a wheel on the highway. Has anyone else had a cheap torque wrench drift on them without any warning signs?
