PSA: You do not need to machine your rotors every brake job, and I've got two shops in town proving both sides
I've been doing pads and rotors in my driveway for 8 years now and my rotors always measured within spec at 30k miles, so I stopped paying the $25 per rotor resurfacing fee and just scuffed them with 120 grit and threw new pads on. My neighbor swears that's why his Civic shudders at 60 mph on I-40 and says you should always turn or replace, so now I'm wondering if I've just been lucky or if he got a bad batch of pads. Who's actually right here, and has anyone measured their rotors after skipping the resurface?
