Hot take: the guy running the tire shop on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie let me watch him balance a wheel and it changed how I do mine
Stopped in last Tuesday to get a slow leak patched on my Civic and the owner, Sal, actually waved me back into the bay instead of making me sit in the waiting room. I watched him do the whole job and the thing that got me was how he cleaned the hub face with a wire brush before it ever went back on the car. He said 80 percent of the shake complaints he gets come from rust and crud on the hub, not the tire itself. I have been swapping my own wheels for 6 years and never once did that step. He also torqued everything by hand with a click wrench and made me stand there while he did it, said he has seen too many rotors warped by impact guns. That one visit taught me more than every YouTube video I have watched combined, and it was free. So now I want to know, do you guys wire brush the hub every single time or only when you feel a shake?
