That one week last March when 3 carriers all quoted me under $800 to move a truck from Phoenix to Chicago
Back around 2019 I felt like I had the game figured out, I'd call 5 brokers, get quotes in a day, and pick the one in the middle. Then last March I had a guy moving a Silverado from Phoenix to Chicago and I got 3 quotes under $800 in the same week, which never happened back then. Now I'm getting $1,400 lowballs and $2,600 "final" prices, so is it just me or did shopping around for a carrier get a lot harder in the last couple years?
Wait, three carriers all under $800 for Phoenix to Chicago in the same week? That is nuts. I remember paying close to that just to get a car moved from Tucson to Denver back in 2020, and Denver is way closer. Something changed big time because those prices look like they are from a different planet now. These days you are lucky to get one quote under two grand and half the time the "final" price is way higher than what they first told you. It really does feel like the whole thing got harder, not easier, even with all the apps and sites that are supposed to make it simple. Maybe the cheap carriers all left or they just know they can charge whatever they want now.
