Shipping a truck from Phoenix to Portland and nobody warned me about the open vs enclosed price gap
Got 4 quotes last month for my F150 and the spread was wild, $780 open carrier vs $1,900 enclosed for the exact same 1,300 mile run. People keep saying enclosed is always the safe pick but unless you've got a classic or fresh paint that's a $1,100 answer to a problem you don't have. What did you all actually pay for open transport on a similar haul?

That line about "a $1,100 answer to a problem you don't have" is spot on. I used to pay for enclosed every time because it felt safer, but then I watched a guy load my daily driver onto an open carrier and he strapped it down better than I would have myself. For a regular truck that already has some miles and rock chips, open is the way to go, and you can put that extra money toward gas.
