Missed the 11am cutoff by 10 minutes, terminal chaos on a Friday
Broker said my pickup window was 11am-3pm, driver showed at 2:50pm and I was already 40 miles out running errands. Had to race back and pay a $75 reschedule fee, but I'm wondering if open vs. enclosed carriers have more flexible arrival times or if that's just a sales pitch. Anyone else get burned by a window that's basically a suggestion?

Open carriers deal with way more moving parts than enclosed ones, so the window thing actually gets worse, not better. An enclosed trailer usually hauls one or two cars at a time with a smaller route, while open carriers are juggling 6 to 10 cars and every stop can add hours depending on traffic and who else is getting a pickup that day. The sales pitch that enclosed is "more careful with scheduling" is mostly just them having less to juggle, not some special flexibility perk. My advice for next time is to treat the start of the window as the real deadline, because drivers almost never show up first thing, they grind through the day and you're lucky to get a heads up call at all. The fee stings but the broker's hands are kind of tied since the driver bills them for the wasted stop.
