A guy at the auto parts counter in Toledo told me my wax job was pointless and he was right
I used to spend two hours every other Saturday waxing my truck in the driveway, feeling pretty good about myself, until I was buying a jug of coolant last fall and the guy behind the counter asked what I used for protection. I told him Meguiar's paste wax, and he just shook his head and said "that stuff cooks off in a month in the sun, you're paying for the smell." I was annoyed at first (who is this guy, right?), but he pulled out a bottle of spray sealant and said it lasts 6 to 8 months if I clay bar first. I tried it on half my hood in November just to prove him wrong. By April the waxed side was dull and water was sticking, and the sealed side still beaded up like new. Cost me less than the wax too, like $18 versus the $25 tin. So now I do a full decon once a year and spray seal every 6 months instead of sweating in the driveway every other weekend. Anyone else get humbled by a parts counter guy or is that just a me thing?
