Skeptical about those $12 magnetic oil drain plugs until I cut one open after 5k miles

Pulled it from my truck at 211k and the crud stuck to the magnet was thick enough to smear, so now I want to know if anyone else has run one long term and seen the same thing or if I just got lucky.
