PSA: Check the ground strap on high mileage Toyotas, it cost me 3 hours of diagnosis on a Camry
Had a 2007 Camry come in with a rough idle and random electrical gremlins, lights dimming, radio cutting out, the whole mess. I threw it on the scanner and got nothing useful, just a bunch of low voltage codes across multiple modules. I chased grounds for two hours, cleaned the battery terminals twice, tested the alternator and it was putting out fine. Then I finally put a jumper cable from the engine block to the negative post and everything cleared up instantly. The ground strap from the block to the chassis was rotted out inside the insulation, looked fine from the outside so I skipped it on my first pass. Twenty dollar part and ten minutes of work after I figured it out. Check those straps on anything over 150k, they rust from the inside out and you will waste an afternoon chasing ghosts. Anyone got a favorite spot to load test a ground without pulling half the harness apart?
