Picked a $28 timing belt tool over pulling the whole front end off a 2.2, and it worked
Had a 1998 Camry in the bay last week with a snapped timing belt and I was about to pull the whole front clip to get at it. My old boss Dale always said to try the short cut first, so I grabbed a $28 locking pin and tensioner tool off the truck instead. Got the belt swapped in about three hours instead of the full day I was dreading, and the car fired up on the first crank. Anyone else keep a cheap tool around just for one job like that?
Dale was right, those locking pins pay for themselves the first time you use one. I've got a $15 seal puller that's saved me from dropping subframes more than once.
