My $18 timing light beat the $200 scan tool on a misfire diag in my bay

Chased a P0302 on a customer's 2011 Silverado for two days with the fancy scan tool swapping coils and plugs, then my old induction timing light showed me the spark was breaking down under load at cylinder 2 in about 90 seconds, and I want to know if anyone else keeps a cheap timing light around for stuff the scan tool just guesses at.
