Hot take: I used to fight with every stuck caliper bolt until I tried a trick from a guy in my old shop.

I was working on a 2012 F-150 last week and the lower bolt was totally seized, so I sprayed it with penetrant, let it sit for an hour, then gave the bolt head a solid tap with my hammer before putting the wrench on. It broke free without a fight, saving me from rounding it off. Do you all have a go-to method for frozen hardware that actually works?

Honestly, I used to just crank on them with a breaker bar and hope for the best, which usually ended badly. That exact hammer tap trick was a total game changer for me too, it feels like it shocks the rust loose. Now my first move is always a good soak in penetrant and a few sharp raps with a hammer before I even touch a wrench. It saves so much headache and stripped bolts.

Totally agree with that hammer tap method you mentioned, beth_thompson52. It really does feel like it breaks the rust's grip. I learned the hard way after snapping a bolt clean off on my old truck. Now I give it a solid soak overnight if I can, then that sharp rap with a hammer. It turns a fight into a simple turn most of the time. What's your go-to penetrant?
