Used to fight with a hammer and dolly for an hour on dented quarter panels...
Switched to a stud welder and slide hammer set about 8 months ago after watching a guy at a shop in Phoenix finish one in 15 minutes. Has anyone else had an easier time with shrinking metal using heat vs. just hammering it out?

The stud welder thing is like how everyone I know started using those battery powered ratchets for tight spaces and never looked back. It's one of those tools where you kick yourself for not switching sooner. I mean, the whole idea of applying heat before hammering makes sense when you think about how metal behaves. It's like with cooking, you heat a pan before you sear meat instead of just throwing it in cold and hoping for the best. Maybe it's just me but I've noticed a lot of trades have these little tricks that cut the frustration in half but nobody talks about them until you watch someone do it right.
