Old painter told me to stop wet sanding my primer jobs

I always wet sanded between primer coats on collision work, thought it was the only way to get glass smooth results. A retired guy at the local NAPA store last month said I was just wasting time on modern 2K primers and to try dry scuffing with 600 grit instead. I gave it a shot on a Honda Civic quarter panel and the finish actually laid down better - has anyone else switched to dry sanding primer and regretted it?

600 grit is too fine for adhesion on modern 2K primers, you want 400 or 320.

Did a buddy try 600 on his bumper and it peeled right off in a week?
