Missouri State Fair demo day made me change my masking tape routine

Watched a rep at the Missouri State Fair show a trick last summer. He laid 3M tape on a fresh quarter panel and then hit it with a heat gun for 10 seconds before shooting sealer. Peeled it off clean, no edge lift even after the panel sat in 90 degree sun for an hour. I used to just stick and shoot, but that demo cost me a repaint on a Ford F-150 door back in March because the tape pulled sealer off the edge. Has anyone else tried heating tape before masking, or do you stick with the old way?
